Synthesis and Electro-Optical Properties of Fluorinated Dimesogenic Compounds |

Two series of symmetric, dimeric molecules containing fluorinated terminal groups have been synthesized and characterized. The molecular structures of compounds were identified by FT/IR- and 1H NMR-spectroscopy. The results were in accordance with the expected molecular formula. The purity of compounds was confirmed by thin layer chromatography (TLC) and elemental analyses (EA). The mesophases were characterized by polarizing optical microscopy and differential scanning calorimetry. The compounds with triad aromatic mesogens formed nematic phase but compounds with no diad aromatic mesogens formed liquid phase. Their electro-optical properties will be described. |
