Surface treatment to increase selective gas adsorption performance of activated carbon fibers |

In this study, various functional groups were introduced on the surface of the activated carbon fibers (ACFs) by methods such as plasma treatment, direct fluorination to increase selective adsorption performance of ACFs. In oxygen plasma treatment, as flow rate of oxygen gas injected during plasma treatment increased, the specific surface area of the ACFs decreased and oxygen functional groups introduced on the surface of the ACFs tended to increase. The adsorption performance about 100 ppm of acetic acid gas in oxygen plasma treated ACFs was improved by 43% compared to the untreated ACFs. On the other hand, the gas adsorption performance of acetaldehyde and formaldehyde was lower than the untreated sample unlike acetic acid gas adsorption performance. Therefore, it was confirmed that plasma treatment can be applied to the surface treatment method for removing selective acetic acid gas of ACFs. |
