Fluorinated activated carbon is widely investigated in many researches such as electrode materials for electric double-layer capacitors, gas-sensors, and gas adsorbents due to its high electronegativity. Therefore, in this research, two fluorine-modifications including direct fluorination by F2 gas and plasma fluorination by CF4 gas are utilized to enhance the electrochemical properties of activated carbon. The fluorine content increased with increasing partial pressure of F2 gas for direct fluorination and with increasing reaction time for plasma fluorination. The specific surface area and total pore volume of the fluorinated ACs were reduced compared to those of the untreated AC because the pore walls were etched during fluorination. The specific capacitance and specific energy of the plasma-fluorinated ACs increased in this research. |
