CO2 sorption and regeneration properties of alkali metal-based dry sorbents using SnO2 for post-combustion CO2 capture |

Alkali metal-based sorbents using TiO2 or γ-Al2O3 have disadvantages in terms of thermal stability and cyclic CO2 capture of the sorbent. To overcome these problems, novel alkali metal-based sorbents were developed in this study. The new alkali metal-based sorbents were prepared by impregnation of SnO2 as a support with K2CO3 or Na2CO3, and investigated at a low temperature range between 60oC and 200oC. The sodium-based sorbent using SnO2 shows high CO2 capture capacity (113.7mg CO2/g sorbent). However, the CO2 capture capacities of the sodium-based sorbent using SnO2 were decreased by increasing calcination temperatures. On the other hand, the potassium-based sorbent using has good thermal stability, regardless of calcination temperature, as well as high CO2 capture capacity (89-94mg CO2/g sorbent). In addition, these high CO2 capture capacities are maintained during multiple cycles even at a low regeneration temperature of 200oC. |
