Thermo-responsive Microstrutures of Elastin-like Polypeptides |

Elastin-like polypeptide(ELP) microstructures were prepared by water in oil (w/o) emulsion method. The swelling behavior and surface morphology induced by changing the external temperature of the incubation media were observed by optical microscopy and field-emission scanning electron microscope, respectively. Controlled drug release of ELP microstructures by triggering the change of surface porosity was examined. The release rate was accelerated by squeezing out the entrapped biomolecules as the temperature was increased above Tt because of the development of micropores at the surface as well. The morphological change of ELP microstructures allows the development of future biomedical applications and will be discussed in the presentation. |
