Electric Properties of Polyviologen and Crown Mixtures |

Semi-crystalline polyviologen with C6 spacers and bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide anions was prepared to investigate the electric property changes with several crown-type compounds. Some mixtures showed still semi-crystalline properties, however the others were amorphous. The ionic conductivities of the mixtures were measured by dielectric relaxation spectroscopy; the ionic conductivity of the polyviologen by itself was 1.1 x10-9 Scm-1, and its mixture of 30-crown-10 was 1.3 x10-7 Scm-1 at room temperature. It was over 100-fold higher than the polyviologen itself without Tg drop. This phenomenon could be explained by the supramolecular interactions between 4,4-bipyridinium moeities and crown ethers to form pseudorotaxanes or other supramolecular structures. |
