The great necessity for renewable energy sources has surfaced lately. Among them, salinity gradient power from ocean energy draws gigantic attention because it is completely renewable, sustainable, and potent in terms of amount. A reverse electro-dialysis (RED), one of the electrochemical conversion devices, is a promising technique for generating the salinity gradient power. It is environmentally benign and is not intervened by climate and time. The performance of RED single cell or stack is determined by the characteristics of a membrane (ion conductivity, durability), operating parameters (salinity ratio, flow rate, temperature, pressure), and electrode system (composition, structure). In this talk, we introduce a lab-scale RED and address the effect of various operating parameters on the performance. |
