Conducting polymer-based core–shell-structured particles are prepared and adopted for stimuli-responsive smart fluids. Smart fluids composed of conducting polymer-based particles exhibit outstanding electro-responsive performances, ascribed to their low density, intrinsic polarizability, geometric features and facile change in electrical conductivity. Furthermore, the magnetite is composited with conducting polymers so that the fluids show controllable rheological characteristics in response to the external magnetic fields as well as electric fields.
