제목 Upcycling of post-adsorption solid residue into high energy density battery-type supercapacitor electrode
초록 Metal oxides (MO) are efficient adsorbent materials which are widely used to remove dye molecules from wastewater; however, MO generates a secondary solid-residue (MO-dye) which is equally toxic. Currently, there is no study on the economic-value of MO-dye which represents a gap in the field of adsorption technology. Herein, we investigate the potential of MO-dye as a precursor to synthesize electroactive material for supercapacitor application. To this end a unique combination of carbonization and carbothermal reduction is used to transform MO-dye into a carbon/metal oxide heterostructure (C/MO) which is then hybridized with nickel foam (NF) via hydrothermal reaction. A C/MO/NF composite forms which is used as a alkaline-supercapacitor electrode. C/MO/NF displays battery-type charge storage properties accompanied by high energy density and rate capability. Bases on this result, MO-dye is proposed to be an excellent precursor to synthesize supercapacitor electrodes.
