Electrophoretic displays possess advantages of both traditional paper and electronic displays, attracting much attention in both in the industrial and academic researches. In this study, black pigment (black 444, Cu2Cr2O5) was encapsulated with poly(methyl methacrylate) by dispersion polymerization in order to improve its dispersion stability in a dielectric medium. The composite particles were positively charged with vinylimidazole to obtain good mobility. Morphology of the particles was examined by both scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscope. Their thermal stability and chemical composition were detected by thermo-gravimetric analysis and Fourier-transform infrared spectra, respectively. Furthermore dynamic light scattering was also used for measuring zeta potential and electrophoretic mobility of the encapsulated particles in Isopar-G oil. |
