A unique core-shell structure by coaxial electrospinning can be served as drug delivery devices because encapsulated drugs in a core can be protected from harsh conditions. For coaxial electrospinning, a dual nozzle composed of an outer and an inner was employed to simultaneously electrospin both outer solution and inner solution. An outer solution was a mixture of PCL-PEG and PCL dissolved in MeOH:chloroform (1:3). For a inner solution, 10mg/ml of BSA was dissolved in 0,1,and5% PVA solution. CLSM revealed that fluorescent protein was successfully loaded in an inner core of coaxial nanofibers and surface-exposed amine groups on a shell of coaxial nanofibers were immobilized proteins. When flow rate ratios of the inner solution and the outer solution were 1:10, proteins were encapsulated in a core of nanofibers by two folds compared to those with a ratio of 1:3. In addition, PVA in inner solutions significantly increased encapsulation efficiencies of protein. |
