The acrylic rubber/silica hybrid composite was synthesized through semi-continuous emulsion copolymerization and sol-gel process. Semi-continuous polymerization system should be employed to have the copolymer composition identical to the monomer composition and sol-gel process comprises organic-inorganic networks. Ethyl acrylate (EA), butyl acrylate (BA), and methoxyethyl acrylate (MEA) were used as monomer and hydroxylethyl acrylate (HEA) was used as functional monomer. Tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) was used as cross-linking agent. Tetramethyl ethylene diamine (TMEDA) and ammonium persulfate (APS) were used as oxidant and reducing agent, respectively. The effects of TEOS content has been studied in terms of particle size and its distribution, Mooney viscosity, rubbery state moduli, glass transition temperature, gel contents etc. The Mooney viscosity increased with the increased amount of TEOS. |
