Since oligo(ε-caprolactone) (OCL) is well known as a non-toxic material and very high miscibility with poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC), nanobrush structured oligo(ε-caprolactone) (nb-OCL), which has excellent molecular mobility with a properly high molecular weight to prevent migration from PVC, was polymerized. Successful polymerization of nb-OCLs was qualitatively confirmed by FT-IR spectroscopy, and the brush length was determined by 1H NMR end-group analysis. The molecular weights were also measured by both 1H NMR end-group analysis and MALDI-TOF-MS. After flexible PVC sheet was prepared, the glass transition temperature, Tg, and the ultimate elongation, εU, were measured by DSC and UTM for the purpose of comparing the plasticization efficiency. In addition, plasticizer migration tests were carried out by the amount of plasticizer migrated out of the flexible PVC sheet to the gaseous phase, liquid phase, and contacting solid substrates. |
