Aluminum perchlorate (AP) is energetic material and produced high temperature in combustion. AP combustion is described in three phases including solid, condensed and gas phase. In this study, 1D mathematical model was established based on the conservation, reaction kinetics (4 condensed phase and 18 gas phase reactions), and heat transfer between phases. Due to melting, evaporation and reaction, this problem is typically described in terms of notorious moving boundary problem. Transformation from moving boundary coordinate to fixed boundary coordinate was carried out. Dynamic simulation was then carried out and simulation results were compared with experimental data. Simulation results predicted temperature and concentration profiles in the gas phase with marginal error. Furthermore, the time transient profile of thickness layer of condensed phase and the burning rate of propellant was illustrated. Since we believe the mathematical model developed from this study employed all important constituent equations, this mathematical model as well as our strategy to transformation of coordinate can be applied to predict dynamic behavior of the other combustion problem for propellant. |
