Multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) produced by CVD usually possess defects which affect the intrinsic properties of MWCNTs and lead to entangled structure. However, the structure and length of MWCNTs can be controlled by chemical or physical cutting process. Furthermore, the length controlling of MWCNTs is another requirement for the MWCNT utilization in many fields, for example, the electronic devices, chemical and biological sensors. In this study, the length of MWCNTs was controlled using a chemical treatment with a 3:1 concentrated H2SO4/HNO3 mixture by varying the treatment time and temperature. The relative dispersibility of the cut MWCNTs with different aspect ratios in organic solvents was determined by light scattering method. |
