Nano-cellulose, which is defined as nano-scale structural dimensions of cellulose has been raised a growing interest on many researchers for past few years due to its high throughput application. It can be cellulose nanocrystal, cellulose nanofiber or bacterial nanocellulose. It can be applied in various areas such as paper making, coating additives, food packaging and biopharmaceutical devices, etc. However, preparing cellulosic material in nano-scale with better mechanical properties and environmental impact could be a challenge. Pretreatment biomass in order to remove hemicellulose and lignin from main cellulosic component is a preliminary stage of nanocellulose fabrication. Following that, pretreated nanocellulosic material could be extracted by acid hydrolysis, enzymatic hydrolysis or mechanical treatment. Characteristics of various nano-cellulose particles, physical properties and pretreatment efficiency will be studied and reported in this paper. |
