Blue Exciplex Host Upconverting Triplet Exciton for Deep Blue Phosphors Organic Light Emitting Diodes |

A thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) exciplex host was developed to extend the device lifetime of deep blue phosphorescent organic light-emitting diodes (PhOLEDs) by employing a novel electron-transport type (n-type) type host managing positive polarons and stabilizing excitons. by introducing a CN-modified carbazole moiety as a weak donor, the bipolar n-type host was designed to secure hole stability and suppress hole leakage while being stabilized under excitons. The exciplex host with TADF properties-based blue PhOLEDs showed quantum efficiency higher than 20% with a deep blue color coordinate of (0.14, 0.16) and extended device lifetime. The operational lifetime of the blue PhOLEDs with the TADF exciplex host was extended by more than twice compared to unipolar host of the exciplex-free properties. This work proposed a design concept of the n-type host to develop the TADF exciplex host for deep blue phosphors to reach a long lifetime in the deep blue PhOLEDs. |
