제목 | Innovative Barrier Level of Poly(vinyl alcohol)/clay Films for Food Packaging |
초록 | In general, PVA film is known to be excellent barriers to oxygen under low relatively humidity condition due to highly polar alcohol (-OH) functionality but that dramatically increases in high humidity condition (>35 %). This fact can be described that with absorbing moisture at high polarity sites in PVA film, its cohesion is weakend, which results in increased oxygen permeability. In order to solve this problem have been explored many methods such as addition of inorganic materials, posttreament process, blend with other polymers and crosslinking of –OH groups etc. In this study, PVA/clay nanocomposite films were prepared with intercalated or exfoliated structure of clay widely used as excellent barrier additve and investigated their optical, mechanical and gas barrier properties with different organoclay concentration. As the results, PVA/clay nanocomposite films were shown to have superior optical properties and reduced oxygen permeability, making them suitable for use as transparent barrier material due to the oxygen barrier effects of the clay layers. |
