Polynorbornenes such as N-phenyl-exo-norbornene-5,6-dicarboximide present excellent optical properties showing very short absorption-edge wavelength of 280 nm, good thermal stability with high Tg of ~240℃, high decomposition temperature of ~440℃, and reasonable CTE of ~ 75ppm/℃, and mechanical flexibility. However, their thermal properties and solvent resistance need to be improved to apply to substrates for flexible displays. On the other hand, chlorinated polyimides such as BPDA/TCDB exhibit good optical properties with absorption-edge wavelength of 373 nm, excellent thermal stability with high Tg of ~350℃, high decomposition temperature of ~ 500℃, and low CTE of ~40ppm/℃, excellent solvent resistance, and mechanical toughness. However, their optical properties also need to be improved. In this work, we introduce new colorless flexible films with good optical, thermal, and mechanical properties as well as good solvent resistance, using polynorbornene/polyimide copolymers. |
