제목 Visualized the self-folding of the pH responsive bi-layered hydrogel by spiropyran cross-linker
초록 The spiropyran molecule converts the colorless spiropyran (SP) form to the purple merocyanine (MC) form under various stimuli such as force, UV light, etc. Furthermore, the MC molecule could be given protonated merocyanine (MCH) form with yellow color in acidic solution. In this study, we synthesized the spiropyran-based cross-linker (MA-SP-MA) functionalizing with acrylate to prepare the pH responsive bi-layered hydrogel. The expansion ratio of each layer in the bi-layered hydrogel was controlled with the synthesized MA-SP-MA cross-linker and methylenebisacrylamide (BIS), respectively. Two layers of the hydrogel with different expansion ratios produced various curvatures in self-folding at pH conditions.  Interestingly, the pH could convert the MC to the MCH form to visualize the degree of curvature. Overall, this new strategy could examined by visualizing self-folding process of the gel in response of pH conditions.
