Silicone foam containing tannicacid (TA) was prepared and characterized in terms of the morphological andmechanical properties, and specific gravity. SEM, EDS, and TGA analyses wereapplied to analyze the TA-filled silicone foam systematically. The addition of 2wt.% of TA contributed to an increase in the expansion ratio and the reductionof the specific gravity of the silicone foam. In addition, the improvement ofthe Young’s modulus and tensile strengthwas accomplished by the addition of chemically modified TA. The reason of the improvement of the mechanicalproperty is the crosslinking reaction between the hydroxy group in the TA andthe hydride group in the hydride-terminated polydimethylsiloxane (H-PDMS). The amount of the hydroxy-terminated PDMS was decreased due to the addition of the chemically modified TA that provide hydroxygroup be half of hydroxy-terminated PDMS. As a result, the mechanicalproperties could be improved with the reduction of specific density. |
