제목 Melt rheological characteristics of fluoroelastomer/layered clay nanocomposites
초록 Two types of fluoroelastomer/layered clay nanocomposites were prepared by melt mixing process and characterized for rheological behavior using Monsanto processability tester under varied shear rates. X- ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopic studies revealed the formation of intercalated/exfoliated FKM/ layered clay nanocomposites. Both types of nanocomposites showed shift towards Newtonian fluid behavior upon increasing the processing temperature and filler loading. The shear viscosity of the FKM/organo clay hybrid was decreased up to 15 wt % filler loading due to orientation of clay layers. The influence of clay loading on rheological behavior demonstrated that optimum level of O-MMT and Na-MMT loadings were around in the range of 7.5 -10 and 5 wt % respectively. The data on activation energy revealed the processability of nanocomposites at considerably lower temperature and shear rate. The die-swell characteristics of the nanocomposites were superior to either gum polymer or carbon black and silica filled composites. Nanocomposites reduced melt fracture and showed improved surface appearance of FKM.
