Chitosan derivatives hydrogel is widely used in biotechnology such as drug delivery system, artificial organ, and separation operation, it is difficult to control the hydrogel due to poor mechanical performance and a slow response rate to external stimuli. On the other hand, glycol chitosan catechol(gCHI-C) cryogel is a gel system that occurs in appropriately frozen solution. When the polymer solution is frozen, solvent crystallizes and catechol concentration increases to the unfrozen liquid microphase. At this time, cryogel is formed by covalent crosslinking on the system. Because of this gelation occurs by catechol oxidation, we confirmed that cryogel is formed only in solutions above pH 5. And this gCHI-C cryogel shows higher modulus compared to hydrogel, and the strength increases with increasing the number of the freezing-thawing cycles. |
