The capture of carbon dioxide (CO2) from post-combustion gases is a possible method to reduce its atmospheric concentration. The use of microporous materials as physical sorbents is now considered promising for CO2 capture. In this work, we synthesized microporous polymers based on a triazine unit by Friedel-Crafts reaction of 2,4,6-trichloro-1,3,5-triazine with aromatic compounds. At ambient pressure and temperature, the polymers exhibit high CO2 uptakes of ~50 cm3/g. The CO2 uptake was further enhanced by carbonization, suggesting that rigid microporous polymers can be used as precursor polymers for the synthesis of advanced porous carbon materials without the activation process. |
