Carbon composite materials for fuel cell bipolar plate can be usually classified as thermoset composites and thermoplastic ones. In this study, the effects of dry condition of the thermoset composite materials on bipolar plate properties have been studied. Epoxy resin and flake graphite have been used as binder and electrical conductive filler respectively in composite materials. After dissolving epoxy resin in acetone solvent, flake-type graphite powders have been mixed with the epoxy-acetone solution. To obtain homogeneous composite materials for fuel cell bipolar plate, the acetone solvent should be removed well from the mixture. In this study, it could be found that the dry condition factors like time and temperature affects the curing behavior dramatically during the molding process of the bipolar plates. The difference in the curing behavior has resulted in the difference of the properties like gas permeability and flexural strength of the bipolar plates. |
