As an engineering plastics poly(phenylene oxide) (PPO) has high thermal stability and excellent mechanical properties, and PPO was transformed to highly sulfonated PPO (sPPO) according to post-sulfonation method which utilizes trimethylsilyl chlorosulfonated (TMSCS) as a sulfonating agent. For direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) membrane, we prepare the semi-interpenetrating polymer network by using sPPO, tri-functional acrylate, di-functional acrylamide and Irgacure 184. Film was prepared by solvent casting of the mixture and subsequent polymerization by UV irradiation. The membrane was studied by ion exchange capacity (IEC), water uptake, and proton conductivity. |
