Due to the rapid increase in global energy demand, the decline in fossil resources and the greenhouse effect, the scientists have been interested in using starting materials from renewable resources. In that situation, family of furan compounds become great starting material to replace oil-derived chemical in polymer synthesis. In this research, we have used 2,5-Bis(hydroxymethyl)furan (BHMF) as co-monomer for polyurethane synthesis, unfortunately this compound give some unstable behaviors under thermal effect. To overcome this problem, new furanic compound was synthesized from BHMF to give high thermal stability, was named 1,1'-((furan-2,5-diylbis(methylene))bis(oxy))bis(propan-2-ol) (FMOP). The structures of furan-based polyurethane were confirmed by 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, and FT-IR spectroscopies. Moreover, their thermal properties and strain-stress curves were also characterized to know the advantages of modification. |
