Rapid population growth, urban sprawl, increasing energy use, and transport are the major air pollution sources in many cities around the world. The most dangerous compounds of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene (BTEX). The main sources of BTEX are transport, power plants, industries and construction works. Humans are exposed to BTEX through respiratory and skin contact. Therefore, VOCs must be removed from the air. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are organic-inorganic hybrid crystalline porous materials composed of one metal ion or metal cluster bound to a poly-substance organic ligand. MOFs, unlike other porous materials, offer their own structural diversity and succeed in controlling framework topology porosity and function. This work synthesized MOF-235 as an optimized adsorbent and conducted systematic adsorption experiments to determine the preferred MOF-235 material. |
