Glabridin is one of the licorice’s ingredients used in cometics as a whitening agent. Despite its outstanding whitening effect, it was limited to use in cosmetics due to the low water-solubility, discoloration and falling of threshold value. The purpose of this study was to prepare glabridin-loaded PCL microspheres by emulsion solvent evaporation method and characterize them with different surfactants used in the formation process. Finally, long-term stability of glabridin was evaluated in emulsions. As a result, PCL microspheres were found to be spherical in shape, with ZI(zwitterionic surfactant)-PCL particles being the smallest size distribution and highest loading efficiency. Emulsions containing glabridin-loaded PCL microspheres showed a better long-term stability of the glabridin compared with those containing only glabridin. These results suggest that glabridin maybe stably and efficiently encapsulated into polycaprolatone microspheres. |
