This study introduces a robust and straightforward method for fabrication of pseudo-ceramide nanoemulsions through co-assembling with mannosylerythritol lipids. This biosurfactant has a unique molecular structure containing the mannose and sugar alcohol erythritol as hydrophilic parts and the alkyl chains with different number of carbons as hydrophobic moieties. This asymmetric biosurfactant can assemble with pseudo-ceramide molecules due to the hydrophobic interaction, which hampers molecular crystallization in water. We figure out how our biosurfactant affects ceramide nano-particulation by observing phase miscibility, particle morphology, and suspension stability. |
