Effects of Cations (Na+, K+, Li+) on exfoliated graphene flakes on organic solvent |

The high-shear exfoliation of graphite is a cost-effective liquid-phase exfoliation method for producing defect-free few-layer graphene dispersions. Here, we demonstrate a novel method using NaOH, KOH, and LiOH in N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) for increased production of graphene flakes (GF) for relativity short operation time of a few hours. The concentration of GF was measured by using UV-vis absorption spectrophotometry, and also the defects of the GF was confirmed by the I(D)/I(G) ratio in Raman spectra. X-ray diffraction spectra revealed the specific cations could improve the degree of exfoliation by expanding the interlayer spacing of graphite. Our work will provide a guide for designing a cations-added exfoliation procedure to obtain higher concentration of exfoliated graphene nanoplatelets. |
