In order to improve the compressive strength of graphite foam (GFm), mesophase pitch (MP) was firstly stabilized and then introduced to fluorine functional groups of incomplete covalent bond with high surface energy. The F/C (%) of fluorinated MP was acquired to the range of 23.75% ~ 61.48% with different fluorine partial pressure. The compressive strength of GFm prepared using fluorinated MP was increased in proportion to the apparent density of composites. The apparent density of the GFm prepared using MP with 35.93% of F/C (%) showed 0.75 g/cm3, which increased up to 1.35%, and the compressive strength had maximum value in 2.93 ± 0.06 MPa, which was increased up to 27.95% than those of the GFm prepared un-fluorinated MP. It attributed that the compressive strength of the acquired GFm was improved with increasing interface bonding between of MP by fluorine functional groups with high surface energy |
