A new class of organic hole-conducting coadsorbents (HC-A) was first synthesised for highly efficient DSSCs through a cascade-typed hole hopping channel. The HC-A molecule acts as a spacer between dye molecules to decrease dye aggregation and as a hole conductor via hole transfer to accelerate electron transfer from the redox electrolyte to the dye, thus enhancing the overall conversion efficiency. Very recently, tailor-made HC-acids were also developed for matching the energy level with proper dyes. As a consequence, a new class of tailor-made organic hole-conducting coadsorbents (HC-As) is a promising candidate as an alternative coadsorbent with new functions not seen in DCA derivatives for highly efficient dye-sensitized solar cells. |
