A new, light-sensitive amphiphilic copolymer (Als) containing ruthenium tris(bipyridyl) and N-vinylcarbazole (NVC) was synthesized through the radical copolymerization of ruthenium(4-vinyl-4′-methyl-2,2′-bipyridine)bis(2,2′-bipyridine)bis(hexaflurophosphate) with NVC. Honeycomb-patterned film was fabricated via the casting of a polystyrene solution by the addition of Als under humid conditions with and without ultraviolet (UV) light illumination. The synthesized copolymer was characterized using Fourier transform infrared and UV-Vis spectroscopies and the thermal stability was determined through thermogravimetric analysis. To study the effect of UV light illumination, a Xe-Hg light source was used. UV light illumination in an appropriate Als concentration minimized the irregular order of the honeycomb pattern; however, the irregular pattern was induced in the presence of an excessive amount of Als. |
