The applications of mesoporous silica in the biomedical field have been increased interest recently. Several attractive features such as uniform pore structure, high surface area, adjustable pore diameter, nontoxic nature, and good biocompatibility seem to validate the possibility of mesoporous silica material for drug delivery system. In this study, we prepared spherical mesoporous silica particles, which had an average diameter in the range of 100 nm, by co-condensation of an amphiphilic organotriethoxysilane having a latent reactive group and tetraethoxysilane. To induce the EPR effect, we introduced polyethylene glycol at the external surface of the silica particle. Doxorubicin, anticancer drug, was covalently loaded via a pH sensitive hydrazone linkage by utilizing a reactive moiety of an amphiphilic precursor inside the pore. Doxorubicin loaded mesoporous silica material showed a pH-dependent release profile. |
