Mesoporous silica has several attractive features such as uniform pore structure, high surface area, nontoxic nature, and good biocompatibility. This material has been demonstrated as a good candidate for drug and gene carriers. In this study, we prepared spherical mesoporous silica particles, which had an average diameter in the range of 100 nm, by co-condensation of an amphiphilic organotriethoxysilane having a latent reactive group and tetraethoxysilane. The external surface of the silica particle was selectively functionalized by PEG. Doxorubicin was introduced into the pore via a pH sensitive hydrazone linkage. This functionalized silica particle showed a controlled and sustained release behavior. |
