With stricter environmental regulation on the emissions of pollutants, the role of desulfurization process in the refining industry has become more important in the past decades. In order to remove refractory S compounds much research has been made to achieve better activity than the conventional catalyst. Among alternatives, Ni2P catalyst has shown best hydrodesulfurization (HDS) activity for the refractory S compounds. In this study, the promotional effect of Ga on the silica-supported Ni2P catalyst was investigated in the HDS of 4,6-DMDBT and the activity was compared with the unpromoted Ni2P catalyst. The catalytic HDS activity was tested at 3.0 MPa and 613K in a three-phase upflow fixed-bed reactor using a model feed containing 500 ppm sulfur as 4,6-DMDBT, 6000 ppm sulfur as dimethyl disulfide, 200 ppm nitrogen as quinolone, 1 wt% tetralin, and 0.5 wt% n-nonane in n-tridecane balance. It was confirmed that Ga-promoted Ni2P catalyst represented a higher conversion (68.0%) than unpromoted Ni2P catalyst (53.5%) at a LHSV of 5.0 h-1. |
