Antioxidants and metalloenzyme inhibitors both have been intensively studied in pharmaceutical, cosmetic and food industries. Hydroxamic acid is a metal chelator, potentially having metalloenzyme inhibition activity and free radical scavenging activity. Amino acidyl hydroxamic acid (AA-NHOH) were prepared for metalloenzyme inhibition, and then coupled to various phenolic acid antioxidants (PhOH) such as hydroxycinnamic acids and hydroxybenzoic acids to give antioxidant activity as well. These compounds (PhOH-AA-NHOH) proved to have synergistic dual-function activities for metalloenzyme inhibition and antioxidant by various bioassay systems. |
