The selectivity of the electrode to hydrogen is very important for various industries and energy conversion, such as the electrocatalysis production of sodium chlorate. In this study we present manganese oxide-coated titanium electrode. MnOx-7-400/Ti have CRR (Chlorine reduction reaction) faraday efficiency of 2% and HER (hydrogen evolution reaction) faraday efficiency of 98% at J=-10 mA cm−2 in 0.5 M NaCl + 4.5 mM NaOCl (pH=6, 0.5 M HCl,) by using two-compartment cell with a cation exchange membrane (CEM), and CRR faraday efficiency is close to 0% at J=-80 mA cm−2. Even though in 0.4 M NaCl + 90 mM NaOCl (pH=6, 0.5 M HCl,), MnOx-7-400/Ti still maintains a very high efficiency for hydrogen evolution. And MnOx-7-400/Ti has high stability during long-term tests at J=-10 and -80 mA cm−2, Manganese oxide has a good application prospect in sodium chlorate production industry. |
