Star shaped 3-armed PLGA-PEO block copolymers with various molecular weights of PLGA and PEO (550, 750, 2000, 5000) were synthesized and characterized, and their aggregation and gelation behaviors were reported in our previous presentation. These star block copolymers have various advantageous properties such as non-toxicity, amphiphilicity, biodegradability, self aggregating property, and temperature sensitivity. Also the critical concentration to form micelle was very low and the size of micelle, which was measured by dynamic light scattering, was nanometer scale. Linear di- and tri block copolymers of PLGA and PEO were developed by other groups to overcome the disadvantage of Pluronic (PEO-PPO-PEO) block copolymers to be used as injectable biomaterials. Star shaped PLGA-PEO was developed by our group to investigate the effect of architecture on the micellization and gelation behavior. In this report, the aggregation and gelation behaviors of star block PLGA-PEO copolymers were studied in pH 7.4 buffer solution and also the effect of salt was studied. And the shape of micelle was investigated with atomic force microscope and scanning electron microscope.
