Solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) is an electrochemical device converting the chemical energy of a fuel directly to electrical energy. It operates at a high temperature between about 700 and 1000, so non-noble metals can be used. Various hydrocarbon fuels can be applied and the installation area is small, so it can be generated near the demand. In particular, the efficiency of the SOFC system, which is the distributed power source having the highest efficiency as new renewable energy, is theoretically up to 90% when hot exhaust gas is used as hot water. We introduces the components of the SOFC system and its development. The contents includes the development and application of the anode material for internal reforming, the ceramic interconnector material for developing all ceramic SOFC stacks, the reforming catalyst for the use of various fuels, and the catalytic combustor for treating unreacted flue gases. |
