Effects of Silane Coupling Agent on Interfacial Adhesion in Carbon Fibers-Reinforced Polypropylene Matrix Composites |

In this work, the silane treatments of carbon fiber (CF) surfaces were carried out to improve the interfacial adhesion between CFs and matrices. The surface properties of silane-treated CFs were characterized using contact angle, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and atomic force microscopy. As a result, the adhesion strength of CFs/polypropylene was significantly increased after silane treatments. This result indicates that the silane treatments on CF surfaces play an important role in improving the degree of adhesion at interfaces in this composite system. |
