In this study, we prepared electrostatically cross-linked carboxymethyl cellulose(CMC) and chitosan (CHI) hydrogel containing Curcumin (Cur)-loaded microcapsules (Cur-M). The CMC and CHI solutions were liquid state before blending and formed a CMC and CHI (CCH) hydrogel after blending by electrostatic interactions between the anionic CMC and cationic CHI. The electrostatically cross-linked CCH hydrogel maintained in vivo for a long period, compared with the individual CMC and CHI solution. The Cur-M was easily loaded in the CMC and CHI solutions. Cur-M/CMC and Cur-M/CHI solutions formed Cur-M-loaded CCH hydrogel after simple mixing. The Cur-M-loaded CCH hydrogel exhibited better suppression of tumor growth than did Cur-M, but single and repeated injections of free Cur had weakest suppression effect. In conclusion, the electrostatically cross-linked, Cur-M-loaded CCH hydrogel demonstrated in this study can enhance anticancer effect in drug delivery systems. |
