Activated carbon fibers were prepared from Oxi-PAN(polyacronitile) fibers by physical activation using steam or chemical activation using potassium hydroxide with different concentration. Textural properties, amount of iodine adsorption, pore size distribution, and adsorption characteristic of ammonia of the activated carbon fibers were measured. In physical activation using steam, specific surface area of 1,025 m2/g and the amount of iodine adsorption of 742 mg/g were obtained. In chemical activation using potassium hydroxide, specific surface area of 1,853 m2/g and amount of iodine adsorption of 1,060 mg/g were obtained from the condition of KOH/fiber ratio of 5:1 at 900℃. |
