A strip of ionic polymer metal composites (IPMC) is an electroactive material with a great potential applications such as actuators, sensors. We investigate the organic solvent effects of methanol, ethanol, propanol, butanol and their mixture with water on the properties of membrane like swelling properties, solvent uptake and on the interfacial area between electrode and polymer membrane. In a process of the chemically plated electrode, mass transport of water and their mixture solvent through a nafion membrane as a function of the number of the plating and the ratio of mixture was measured. The better improved electrode induced a better bending performance of actuator. Bending displacement and bending response rate are increased with the increased force. The morphology of the IPMC was characterized by FE-SEM. Displacement, force and response rate were measured by a displacement measuring system. |
