Radiation is an energy that forms of waves or high speed particles and has enough energy to break chemical bonds. That is referred to as ionizing radiation, for example, gamma-ray. The gamma-irradiation process is to induce chemical and biological changes and exhibit properties of controlled penetration and intensities, which are especially suitable for synthesis and modification of polymeric biomaterials without the need of usually toxic additives. So, radiation is being applied for potential biomedical and biotechnological technologies of these advanced materials include implants, topical dressings, injectable formulations, drug delivery devices, diagnostic assays, separation and purification processes, immobilized enzyme and cell bioprocesses and cell culture surfaces. |
