Interface Engineering of Ag/LaNiO3 Electrocatalysts to boost Oxygen Evolution Reaction |

Developing high-efficiency oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrocatalysts is important for high-performance water electrolysis technology. In this work, we report a novel strategy to improve OER activity by creating interfacial active sites between Ag (x) nanoclusters and La1-xNiO3 perovskite electrocatalysts (Ag/LNO-x). The overpotential of the Ag/LNO-0.05 was 315 mV at 10 mA cm–2geo, which was much better than commercial iridium oxide (IrO2, 398 mV). The density functional theory calculation revealed that the enhanced OER electrocatalytic activity of Ag/LNO-x is mainly due to a change in the reaction mechanism at the interface. At the interface, oxygen evolution via the dual-site mechanism becomes much more favorable than conventional adsorbate evolution mechanism. As the result, the Ag/LNO-0.05 electrocatalyst provided enhanced OER activity, which was 20 times higher mass activity before and 74 times after an accelerated durability test than the IrO2 electrocatalyst. |
