Herein, we have grown the FeCo2O4@N-Doped carbon dots (CDs) nanoflowers on nickel foam by hydrothermal method to fabricate the electrode for electrochemical reduction and oxidation of water. The rational choice of CDs reveals improved electrocatalytic performance for the hydrogen and oxygen evolution reaction (HER and OER) compared to the pristine FeCo2O4 in alkaline medium. The interaction between CDs and FeCo2O4 provides excellent electrocatalytic behavior by escalating the transfer of electrons, as a result, the overpotential of 205 mV was required for the current density of 10 mA/cm2 for HER, while 393 mV was required to reach 50 mA/cm2 for OER. This technique proposes an efficient method to produce metal-oxides conjugated CDs to improve electrochemical water splitting performance.
