To treat type 1 diabetes characterized by the autoimmune destruction of the β-cells, several studies report some possible candidates. In cell delivery system, especially, it is essential to avoid immune response after transplantation. In this respect, hydrogel is considered as a great cell reservoir due to its high water contents. Also, to minimize surgical process, hydrogels which can be injected into body using syringe are required. In this study, we designed gelatin based injectable hydrogel. Among many biopolymers, we decided to use gelatin because it has a lot of RGD sequences in its content, so it is expected that the gelatin containing hydrogel can enhance cell adhesion. By blending oppositely modified gelatin, we confirmed the gelation behavior and also found that the hydrogel using this system is injectable by shear thinning property. Finally, we applied this hydrogel into islet cell carrier to monitor the high glucose level by in vivo experiment. |
