Global warming causes permafrost thawing, and a number of microbes that have disease-causing capabilities were newly discovered in Arctic permafrost. Here, we first determined the chemical structure of the lipid A known to be associated with pathogenicity from a Pseudomonas species using MALDI-based tandem mass spectrometry. Additionally, we confirmed the correlation between lipid A structure and pathogenicity by comparing pathogenicity with terrestrial microbes that have identical structure of the lipid A of Pseudomonas species in permafrost. |
